FREEBORN Accepts Appointment on the Missouri District Export Council.
St. Louis, MO - March 12, 2008 -- John Freeborn, Principal Partner with the Freeborn
Development Group, accepted the US Department of Commerce nomination to serve a two year
term on the Missouri District Export Council. Mr. Freeborn was nominated by Mr. Michael Burke,
Vice Chairman, and his confirmation and approval was accepted by the U.S. Secretary of
Commerce.
District Export Councils (DECs) are organizations of leaders from the local business community,
appointed by successive U.S. Secretaries of Commerce, whose knowledge of international
business provides a source of professional advice for local firms. For 30 years, DECs have
served the United States by assisting companies in their local communities export, thus promoting
our country’s economic growth and creating new and higher paying jobs for their communities.
Closely affiliated with the Commerce Department’s U.S. Export Assistance Centers, the 58 DECs
combine the energies. Of nearly 1,500 exporters and export service providers who support the U.
S. Government’s export promotion efforts throughout the country. The District Export Councils
contribute leadership and international trade expertise to complement the U.S. Commercial
Service’s export promotion efforts through counseling businesses on the exporting process and
conducting trade education and community outreach.
Mr. Freeborn accepted the appointment of Chairman for the 2008/2009 MODEC Outreach
Committee. In this role Mr. Freeborn will coordinate and direct the MODEC activities and efforts to
develop partnerships with Missouri and Southern Illinois business leaders, government agencies,
educational institutions, public and private institutions and associations to promote the mission,
services and activities of the Missouri District Export Council on behalf of the U.S. Department of
Commerce.
